PancakeSwap Gaming Marketplace - The Latest Hint of an NFT Resurgence?

First Disney Pinnacle, and now PancakeSwap… are NFTs really back?

Per developments earlier this week, leading decentralised crypto exchange (DEX) PancakeSwap has launched a new platform dedicated to blockchain gaming and NFTs.

The platform - which is aptly entitled the ‘PancakeSwap Gaming Marketplace’ - has been built with both users and gaming companies in mind, as it essentially provides developers with the opportunity to publish games for the platform’s supposed ‘1.5 million potential monthly players’ to enjoy.

From here, such users not only get to enjoy innovative new blockchain gaming titles, but they can do so whilst earning the platform’s native CAKE ($CAKE) token within a Play-to-Earn (P2E) ecosystem.

Or in other words - and per a corresponding announcement from the company - the new marketplace will be a virtual ecosystem for gamers, developers, and the PancakeSwap community to ‘play, build, and connect’ with one another.

The PancakeSwap Gaming Marketplace initially features two pancake-themed games. The first is a tower-defence and Player-versus-Player (PvP) title called ‘Pancake Protector’ (launched back in May), whilst the other is a ‘casual’ strategy game called ‘Pancake Mayor’.

Further, the former was developed in partnership with community-driven GameFi platform Mobox, and is tailored for those who hold ‘Pancake Squad’ NFTs. On the other hand, Pancake Mayor was developed in partnership with GameFi and IGO platform BinaryX, and is tailored towards players who own ‘Pancake Bunnies’ NFTs.

With such premise in mind, future games published on the platform will be centred around the DEX’s 36 native NFT collections. And as of now, PancakeSwap is actively encouraging more developers to begin creating games for its new DeFi gaming ecosystem.

In doing so, PancakeSwap - which now supports BNB, Ethereum, Polygon, Base, and Arbitrum One - and its new Web3 gaming platform serves as the latest hint of a grand NFT resurgence - a rhetoric that garnered momentum earlier this month via the announcement of Disney’s bespoke digital collectibles platform ‘Pinnacle’.
